New energy projects

We endeavour to find the solutions of tomorrow by utilising the expertise we have gained on the way to becoming the world's leading offshore oil and gas company.
We are preparing the basis for the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm some 20 kilometres off the east coast of Norfolk, England. StatoilHydro will be the operator, both in the development and operations phase of the project.

After the planned start-up which is scheduled for 2011, a total of 88 wind turbines will generate a combined average annual production of 1.1 TWh, equivalent to approximately 650 mboe.

Hywind will be the world's first full-scale floating offshore wind power unit, and will serve as an important pilot project to bring StatoilHydro into a leading position in offshore renewable power technology.

The dimensions are large: the rotor blades on the floating wind turbine will have a diameter of 80 metres, the nacelle will tower some 65 metres above the sea surface, and the floatation element will have a draft of some 100 metres below the sea surface. The wind turbine can be located in waters with depths between 120 and 700 metres, and it will be moored to the seabed using three anchor points.
