The main tasks of this group are to establish a strategic plan for CO2 and to ensure implementation of our corporate climate change policies in the Canadian oil sands projects. The CO2strategic plan outlines principles and road maps for mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions such as energy efficiency measures, technology development, generation and use of offsets and evaluation of carbon capture and storage (CCS).

In 2008 StatoilHydro Canada became a participant in three joint industry projects related to CO2 storage. In addition, we are a member of ICO2N, a CCS initiative working to support Canada in reaching its greenhouse gas reduction targets through an integrated CO2 transportation system. We are engaging with Canadian authorities to share our Norwegian experience of climate change regulation.
