Cooperation with employee representatives and trade unions

We emphasise the value of cooperation with our employees, and 69% of staff (StatoilHydro ASA) are members of a trade union. Our cooperation with employee representatives and trade unions is based on confidence and trust.

StatoilHydro emphasises the value of cooperation with our people, and 69% of the people in StatoilHydro ASA are members of a trade union.

The way the company and the employee representatives work together is illustrated in the integration process between Statoil and Hydro. The various activities completed in 2008 are explained here.

Work Councils and Work Environment committees are established where required by law or agreement. These bodies are informed and involved both on business plans and perspectives, organisational changes and HSE issues. In addition, we use town hall meetings and active use of our intranet to establish open communications between our employees and mangers.

The agreement with ICEM, which is an international federation that represents trade unions worldwide, was renewed in 2008. We were the first company in the oil and gas industry to sign this agreement. The cooperation with ICEM enables the exchange of information and further development of good working practices in our operations worldwide. The contents of the agreement reflect our policies and values in areas such as industrial relations, human rights, labour standards and HSE.
