Working in collaboration
We collaborate with a wide range of people, groups and partners to promote sustainability, at corporate, country and project levels.
Many of the challenges that the oil and gas industry is facing cannot be solved unilaterally. It is necessary to build alliances and partnerships across the industry, as well as with governments, international organisations, civil society and other stakeholders.
Here, we provide an overview of the most important initiatives and organisations that we have supported at corporate level in 2008.
Organisations
Amnesty International Norway
Amnesty International is a worldwide, member-controlled organisation which campaigns for internationally recognised human rights for all.
Bellona
The Bellona Foundation is a multi-disciplinary international environmental NGO based in Oslo, Norway.
Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)
The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) supports increased transparency and improved governance in resource-rich countries through the verification and full publication of company payments and government revenues from oil, gas and mining.
FoEN
FoEN is a nationwide organization with branches in all counties, and 155 local groups scattered throughout Norway.
Global Business Coalition
The Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GBC) is an association of more than 220 leading companies working to maximize their impact in the fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.
Global Gas Flaring Reduction Initiative (GGFR)
The GGFR partnership, a World Bank-led initiative, facilitates and supports national efforts to use currently flared gas.
Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is a long-term, multi-stakeholder governed institution collaborating to provide globally applicable guidelines and standards for sustainability reporting.
ICEM
ICEM is a global federation of unions covering the oil/ energy and mining industries with approximately 20 million members
IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme (IEA GHG)
The IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme (IEA GHG) is an international collaborative research programme set up under the auspices of the International Energy Agency.
International Association of Oil & Gas producers (OGP)
The association was formed in 1974 to develop effective communications between the upstream industry and an increasingly complex network of international regulators.
International Emissions Trading Association (IETA)
IETA is dedicated to the objectives of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and ultimately climate protection.
International Gas Union (IGU)
The International Gas Union (IGU) was founded in 1931. It is a worldwide non-profit organisation Switzerland with the present Secretariat located in Oslo, Norway.
IPIECA
The International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA) was established in 1974 following the establishment of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
IUCN
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is the world's largest and most important conservation network.
Norwegian Centre for Human Rights
The Norwegian Centre for Human Rights is an independent, multidisciplinary research centre on human rights based at the University of Oslo.
Norwegian Red Cross
The Red Cross is an international humanitarian relief agency, with Red Cross or Red Crescent societies in 187 countries.
Norwegian Refugee Council
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent, humanitarian non-governmental organisation which provides assistance, protection and durable solutions to refugees and internally displaced persons worldwide.
Partnering Against Corruption Initiative (PACI)
The Initiative is based on a commitment to zero-tolerance towards bribery and a commitment to implement a practical and effective anti-corruption program within the company.
The International Crisis Group (ICG)
StatoilHydro began financially supporting the ICG in 2007, and in 2008 we become a member of the ICG President's Council.
Transparency International (TI)
TI has placed fighting of corruption on the agenda, and works in relation to governments, organisations and business and industry alike.
UN Global Compact
StatoilHydro was one of the first companies to sign up as a member of the Global Compact in 2000.
UNEP
The Proteus project was initiated by the United Nations Environment Programme - World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) in 2002.
VPSHR
The initiative to develop the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR) was taken by the US and the UK governments in 2000.
WBCSD
The World Business Council Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is a global association of some 200 companies united by a shared commitment to sustainable development.
World Bank Carbon Finance Unit (CFU)
A partnership between seventeen companies and six governments, and managed by the World Bank, the PCF became operational in April 2000.
Zero
ZERO is an NGO focusing on climate change.
