Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is a long-term, multi-stakeholder governed institution collaborating to provide globally applicable guidelines and standards for sustainability reporting.
The Sustainability Reporting Guidelines are now in its third version - the G3 Guidelines - and were published in 2006.

The Guidelines set out principles and indicators that organisations can use to measure and report their economic, environmental, and social performance.

To date more than 1000 organisations have declared their voluntary adoption of the Guidelines worldwide. Consequently the G3 Guidelines have become the de facto global standard for sustainability reporting. GRI is a collaborating centre of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Guidelines can be used to produce the UN Global Compact's annually required Communication on Progress (COP) report.

StatoilHydro has been an organisational stakeholder of the GRI since 2005.
