Educating for Peregrino
On Peregrino's Trail: addressing educational needs in Peregrino's area of influence
In an effort to mitigate the labour shortage in Brazil and enable greater participation by local residents in the benefits from the oil industry, we are financing a socio-environmental project to address community needs in the area affected by Peregrino.
As operator of the Peregrino field, we are financing the socio-environmental project - "On the Peregrino's Trail: From the School up to the Platform" ("Na Trilha do Peregrino: da Escola à Plataforma") - which aims to address the needs of communities within our project's area of influence that may be potentially affected by our exploration and production activities in the area.
The Peregrino's Trail project, implemented in cooperation with the Rio de Janeiro State Government and local public schools, supports education and the upgrading of skills in local communities within the area of influence of Peregrino.
The Peregrino's Trail project aims to reduce the distance between the oil industry and society, as well as providing a response to a constant request from local stakeholders: opportunities.
In 2008, the programme has focused on the development of educational materials on different aspects of the oil and gas industry. So far two DVDs have been produced: "The oil history" and "Geology"; additional DVDs are under preparation on the exploration, development and production stages.
The project has also offered scholarships for preparation courses for financially disadvantaged students, which will enable them to pursue a university degree or technical education in a relevant field. In 2008, 100 students from schools were selected for scholarships that entitled them to additional support and training.
