Supporting our activities in Angola
To support our operations in Angola, we are concentrating our efforts on strengthening internal capacity, building towards a stronger local organisation and promoting national content, building competence among local partners.
Education and capacity building
We cooperate with the Angolan national oil company, Sonangol P&P, primarily in the areas of technology, exploration and technical support. We are technical assistants on Block 34 and provide technical support in Block 4 where we cover the entire value chain from exploration to production. StatoilHydro professionals are seconded to Sonangol P&P on Sonangol's request to work side by side with the Angolans.
We consider the Management and Technology Transfer Programme (MTT) implemented within the Block 34 framework to have been a success. Young Angolans trained under the programme are now participating in many technical activities, enabling Sonangol P&P to handle the assets that were taken over from Sonangol EP (Concessionnaire).
We are also supporting the development of local oil and gas skills and working with Agostinho Neto University (UAN) in Luanda, strengthening teaching capability through post-graduate courses for Angolans at NNTU (ANHEI project, Angolan Norwegian Higher Education Initiative).
Community development and human rights, good governance
As well as the social investments implemented under our commitments as partners in six licences, we have our own portfolio in partnership with Angolan entities and NGOs in eight out of 18 provinces.
Our social investment portfolio include projects on safe water supply and sanitation, rural teacher training, HIV/AIDS awareness programmes, mine clearance, empowerment of civil society, and support for integrating ethics into university curricula in the country (publishing compendia on Business Ethics, Natural Resources Management and Public Sector Ethics).
