We make substantial purchases in connection with the development and operation of our activities. In 2009, the invoiced value of goods and services, excluding petroleum products, purchased by Statoil was NOK 129.8 billion. Part of these costs are covered by our partners. Projects will often involve a combination of national and foreign suppliers.
In 2009, NOK 102.2 billion was paid to approximately 7,000 companies located in Norway, while NOK 27.6 billion was paid to approximately 11,500 suppliers with registered addresses in 73 different countries.
In 2008, the invoiced value of goods and services, excluding petroleum products, purchased by Statoil was NOK 123.3 million. The difference between the 2008 and 2009 levels reflects a general increase in investment activity in most countries in which the company operates. We endeavour to encourage local deliveries and to cooperate with local enterprises as contractors and suppliers where they exist. We also invest in the hope of developing sustainable and competitive local enterprises.
