We make substantial purchases in connection with the development and operation of our activities. In 2010, the invoiced value of goods and services, excluding petroleum products, purchased by Statoil was NOK 120.0 billion. Part of these costs is covered by our partners. Projects will often involve a combination of national and foreign suppliers.
In 2010, NOK 94.4 billion was paid to approximately 6,700 companies located in Norway, while NOK 25.5 billion was paid to approximately 11,600 suppliers with registered addresses in 83 different countries.
In 2009, the invoiced value of goods and services, excluding petroleum products, purchased by Statoil was NOK 129.8 million. The decrease in procurements from 2009 to 2010 was primarily due to a spending reduction in a Norwegian project and other cost-saving initiatives. We endeavour to encourage local deliveries and to cooperate with local enterprises as contractors and suppliers where they exist. We also invest in the hope of developing sustainable and competitive local enterprises.
