In just a few years Statoil has positioned itself as a significant player in the exploration and development of oil and gas deposits in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM).

US offshore is responsible for development and production in US waters. Statoil has ownership interests in six producing offshore fields in the US.
The group is one of the largest licensees in the deepwater areas of the Gulf of Mexico with a big portfolio of exploration licences as both operator and partner. Statoil also has exploration licences in the Chukchi Sea in Alaska.

US onshore takes care of the group’s position in petroleum production from shale formations. In 2008 Statoil acquired a 32.5% interest in Chesapeake Energy Corporation’s Marcellus shale gas acreage in the north-eastern USA.
In 2010 Statoil and Talisman formed a joint venture to develop and produce petroleum resources from the Eagle Ford shale in south-west Texas.

Statoil has a trading office in Stamford, Connecticut which plays an important role in our global network for trading crude oil and refined products. From here we deliver about 600,000 barrels of crude oil, petrol, propane and butane into the North American market every day.
