Turkmenistan is the 4th largest gas resource holder in the world. The 2012 BP’s Annual Statistical Review appraises Turkmenistan’s proven natural gas reserves at 24.3 tcm as of the end of 2011. South Yoloten, Osman, Minara and other nearby gas deposits (the cluster of reservoirs in the east of Turkmenistan named Galkynysh) hold just under 20 tcm, and comprise the major share of Turkmenistan’s total gas reserves, which include other onshore fields and its Caspian offshore.

Statoil has a strong position in this region due to our assets in Azerbaijan, and we are competitively positioned to take advantage of developing and exporting Turkmen gas to the EU.

Statoil started an organic access initiative for Turkmenistan in 2008 and opened a representative office in Ashgabat in 2009.
