Statoil is a leading gas player with a strong position on the Norwegian continental shelf. The group also develops and participates in key international gas value chains.
The group markets the gas portion belonging to the Norwegian State (SDFI) together with its own, and is responsible for marketing about 75 per cent of total Norwegian gas exports.
Statoil is the second largest supplier of natural gas to the European market, with a market share of approx. 14 per cent.
Statoil is responsible for the technical operations of the majority of the export pipelines and onshore plants in the processing and transportation system for Norwegian gas.
For more than 30 years, Norwegian gas has been delivered to Europe, transported through an extensive and flexible pipeline system with terminals located in the UK, Germany, Belgium and France.
Statoil also markets liquid natural gas (LNG) from the Snøhvit field in the Barents Sea. The gas is transported in purpose-built ships to customers all over the world.
Demand for natural gas continues to increase and this provides the basis for further growth.
Statoil develops and participates in the international gas market in the U.S., the Caspian region and northern Africa, as well as Russia.
