The thermal power plant at Mongstad has a production capacity of approx. 280 megawatts (MW) electricity and approx. 350 MW heat.
The plant will have two gas turbines, each of which is connected to a generator for energy production and each with a section for recycling of flue gas heat. In addition, a steam turbine with separate generator for electricity production will be installed.
The produced electricity will be delivered for immediate consumption by the industrial facilities on Mongstad and the newly built Mongstad transformer station, which distributes the electricity to the regional energy grid and the Troll facilities at Kollsnes.
The thermal power plant will provide an energy efficiency of 60 to 65 per cent at start-up.
When future facilities at Mongstad are gradually connected to the thermal power plant, the energy efficiency will increase to in excess of 80 per cent.
