Mongstad combined heat and power plant
The combined heat and power plant (CHP) at Mongstad started production in December 2010. The plant is part of the Energiverk Mongstad project, which also built a gas pipeline from Kollsnes to Mongstad and completed an upgrade of the refinery’s process plant. The CHP is currently wholly owned by Statoil.
The thermal power plant supplies Mongstad with electricity and heat and, under the terms of the agreement with the owners of the Troll licence, also supplies power via the grid to the Troll A platform and the Kollsnes gas treatment facility.
The main idea behind the Energiverk Mongstad project was to boost the refinery’s energy efficiency and improve the security of electricity supply in the district.
At maximum utilisation, the CHP can deliver 280 megawatts (MW) of electricity and about 350 MW of heat.
