In its most cautious estimate, the IEA predicts a 20% increase in energy demand between 2007 and 2030. About 1.6 billion people currently lack access to reliable energy sources. The quest to harness more energy is taking place alongside the struggle to reduce global climate emissions.
Norway is the world’s most carbon efficient producer of hydro- carbons. Statoil has taken on a leading role in the ambitious drive to maximise potential on the Norwegian continental shelf, where more than half of the oil and gas are still to be found under the seabed.
And in this year alone we are adding new volumes from three new fields: Gjøa, Vega and Morvin. Early next year we expect production start of the Peregrino field in Brazil.
