Sheringham Shoal Wind Farm reaches a landmark
A small celebration took place at the Scira offices on Polka Road in Wells-next-the-Sea earlier this month, to mark the successful installation of the 44th foundation of the Sheringham Shoal Wind Farm – half-way point to the 88 foundations that will support the turbines of the finished development.
The foundations are being installed by the state-of-the-art crane vessel, the Oleg Strashnov, which on occasions, is clearly visible at work on the horizon.
Each turbine will rest on a foundation, which comprises a monopile, topped by a yellow transition piece. Once fully constructed, the 88 turbines will produce enough electricity to power 220,000 homes.
To celebrate this landmark occasion, employees of the Sheringham Shoal enjoyed a slice of the delicious cakes, supplied by Arthur Howell Bakery in Wells.
Since the celebration, a further ten foundations have been installed, bringing the total to 54.
