The world faces major challenges over the next few years. A growing demand for energy driven by strong economic growth, particularly in Asia, means that new areas must be opened for production if demand is to be met.
Unfortunately, many of these regions are associated with greater challenges than the industry has been used to.
These include physical access, the environment and climate, and countries with challenges related to forms of government, democracy and human rights.
These conditions call for a response which involves a greater emphasis on sustainable solutions. Our future competitiveness will be influenced by this response.
