Public consultation on wind farm operational base
The developers of the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm will host a public exhibition and consultation event on their proposed operational base facility on Wednesday (July 21).
The event, to be held at the Scira Offshore Energy project office and information point in Staithe Street, Wells-next-the-Sea, from 10am until 8pm, will give local residents and visitors the opportunity to comment on the proposed plans for an operational base at Egmere.
The 317MW wind farm is now under construction off the coast of North Norfolk, between 17 and 22 km north of the town of Sheringham. Once in operation, it will require daily maintenance by teams of wind turbine technicians travelling to and from the new outer harbour at Wells-next-the-Sea. It is proposed that these technicians, and Scira Offshore Energy management and administration, be based at a new office and storage facility at Egmere, to be constructed on an existing commercial site.
The proposed base will include 800sqm of office space and 500sqm of warehousing, as well as car parking and landscaping. It will be the base for approximately 40 wind turbine technicians and up to 20 office-based employees who will operate and maintain the wind farm.
Plant Manager, Einar Strømsvåg said it was important for the local members of the community to know what was planned for the area, and encouraged them to attend the exhibition to provide feedback and comments on the proposed facility.
The Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm is owned equally by Statoil and Statkraft through the joint venture company Scira Offshore Energy Limited. Statoil is the operator for the project during the development phase. Scira will be the operator of the wind farm.
