The concept of multi-instrumentalist is not sufficient to describe Mathias Eick. In different constellations he plays trumpet, acoustic bass, vibraphone, guitar and piano with equal skill.  In 2006, the International Jazz Festivals’ Organisation and the International Association for Jazz Education pronounced Mathias Eick as the year’s international jazz talent under the age of 30.

Mathias Eick was awarded a grant of NOK 800,000 by Statoil during the by:larm music festival in February 2009. He received the price from a unanimous jury, in competition with nine other artists. “The winners’ performance is impressive, engaging and they are on their way to an international breakthrough,” said Magne Furuholmen, jury chair, when he presented the winners.
