President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

The CEO is responsible for day-to-day operations, and presents proposals for strategy, goals, actions and financial statements, as well as important investments. Eldar Sætre is our President and CEO.

Chief Operating Officer (COO)

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for the corporate improvement programme and for driving operational efficiency across Statoil’s eight business areas. The COO also plays a key role in the further development of Statoil. The role of the COO organisation is to drive consistent long term safe and efficient operational performance and value creation. Chief Operating Officer Jannicke Nilsson heads the COO organisation.

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is the corporate controller with responsibility for the corporate finance functions. In addition, the CFO organisation manages the market perception of Statoil in Norwegian and international financial markets through active stakeholder management. The CFO drives performance within Statoil and provides professional support and advice. Chief Financial Officer Hans Jakob Hegge heads the CFO organisation.

Legal

Legal has the global functional responsibility for all legal matters related to the Statoil group’s business and corporate activities, overall responsibility for advising on all legal matters and ensuring that activities related to ethics and anti-corruption are well organised and conducted in a satisfactory manner.

The corporate bodies’ secretariate within the group is also the responsibility of legal, which is a global organisation with employees in several locations in and outside Norway. Legal is headed by Senior Vice President and General Counsel Hans Henrik Klouman.

Corporate Communication (CCOM)

CCOM's purpose is to protect and enhance Statoil's reputation, supporting the company's effort to reach strategic goals. The function is responsible for media relations, internal communication, political and public affairs and brand communication, and advises the Board of Directors and senior management on communication issues. Corporate Communication is headed by Senior Vice President Reidar Gjærum.

Corporate Audit (COA)

Corporate Audit is responsible for auditing Statoil's business to ensure that it is subject to adequate management and control. The function is responsible for investigation of accidents and cases of ethical misconduct, as well as all internal audits. Corporate Audit provides assurance, challenges current practice and provides information from a truly independent viewpoint. The head of Corporate Audit is Senior Vice President Jon Arnt Jacobsen.

Corporate people and leadership (Corporate PL)

CPL carries an overall responsibility for the corporate people and leadership function in the Statoil group. CPL will ensure one company approach to achieve sustainable global business for Statoil. The role of the CPL  function is to establish the strategy direction for the function, set corporate functional standards and targets, and drive operational performance.  CPL  is headed by Senior Vice President Magne Andre Hovden. 

Marketing, Midstream & Processing (MMP)

MMP’s goal is to maximise corporate value creation in Statoil’s mid- and downstream business through safe, reliable and efficient operations. The business area is responsible for capturing the full value potential of all marketed and traded products such as crude oil, liquids and natural gas. MMP is headed by Executive Vice President Jens Økland.

Development & Production Norway (DPN)

DPN is responsible for developing and producing oil and gas resources in Norway, and has about 9,000 employees. The business area’s goal is to ensure safe and efficient operations and maximize the potential of the Norwegian continental shelf. DPN has four business clusters in addition to the four staff functions, finance and control, communication, safety and sustainability and people and organisation. The four business clusters are:

  • Operations North (Barents Sea) located in Harstad 
  • Operations Mid-Norway (Norwegian Sea) located in Stjørdal near Trondheim
  • Operations West (North Sea) located in Bergen
  • Operation South (North Sea) located in Stavanger 

Partner-operated fields cover the entire NCS and are internally included in the Operations South business cluster. DPN is headed by Executive Vice President Arne Sigve Nylund.

Development & Production International (DPI)

DPI is responsible for our international development and production, and is engaged in production in 11 countries: Algeria, Angola, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Canada, Libya, Nigeria, Russia, the UK, the US and Venezuela. DPI produced 31% of Statoil's total equity production of oil and gas in 2014.

As of 31 December 2014, Statoil has exploration licences in North America (Alaska, Canada and the Gulf of Mexico), South America and sub-Saharan Africa (Angola, Brazil, Colombia, Suriname, and Tanzania), the Middle East and North Africa (Azerbaijan, Algeria and Libya), Europe and Asia (the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Indonesia, Russia and the UK) as well as Oceania (Australia and New Zealand).

Statoil also has representative offices in Kazakhstan, Mexico and United Arab Emirates.

The main development projects in which DPI is involved are in Angola, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, the UK and the US.

DPI is headed by Executive Vice President Lars Christian Bacher.

Development & Production USA (DPUSA)

DPUSA is responsible for developing and producing oil and gas resources in the USA. The business area is led from Houston, USA and organised in the business cluster US offshore (Houston), US onshore (Houston) as well as a separate unit for business development. US offshore is responsible for development and production in US waters. Statoil has ownership interests in six producing offshore fields in the US.

The group is one of the largest licensees in the deepwater areas of the Gulf of Mexico with a big portfolio of exploration licences as both operator and partner. Statoil also has exploration licences in the Chukchi Sea in Alaska.

US onshore takes care of the group’s position in petroleum production from shale formations. In 2008 Statoil acquired a 32.5% interest in Chesapeake Energy Corporation’s Marcellus shale gas acreage in the north-eastern USA. In 2010 Statoil and Talisman formed a joint venture to develop and produce petroleum resources from the Eagle Ford shale in south-west Texas.

DPUSA is headed by Executive Vice President Torgrim Reitan.

Technology, Projects & Drilling (TPD)

TPD is responsible for delivering projects and wells and providing global support on standards and procurement. TPD is also responsible for developing Statoil as a technology company. TPD business activities are organised in the following business clusters:

  • Research, development and innovation
  • Technology excellence
  • Projects 
  • Drilling and well 
  • Procurement and supplier relations

TPD is headed by Corporate Vice President Margareth Øvrum.

Exploration (EXP)

EXP manages Statoil’s global exploration portfolio and aims to position Statoil as one of the leading global exploration companies. EXP works on obtaining access to new high potential acreage, in addition to securing infrastructure-led exploration on the Norwegian continental shelf and in other select areas.

The business area ensures efficient exploration operations, including seismic acquisition and drilling of exploration and appraisal wells. EXP is headed by Executive Vice President Tim Dodson.

Global Strategy & Business Development (GSB)

GSB is Statoil’s functional centre for strategy and business development.The ambition of the GSB business area is to closely link corporate strategy and business development to actively drive Statoil's corporate development. GSB is responsible for Statoil’s global strategy processes, and identifies, develops and delivers inorganic business development opportunities. This is achieved through close collaboration across geographic locations and business areas.

Statoil's strategy forms the basis for guiding the company’s business development focus. 

Executive vice president John Knight leads the GSB business area.

New Energy Solutions (NES)

NES will focus on developing commercial sources of alternative energy, as well as looking at investments in proven alternative and renewable energy. NES is headed by Executive Vice President Irene Rummelhoff.
