USER FOCUS

Our goals with the new site

The site you see before you now is the result of a complete rethink of our website. We went back to the drawing board with the goal of giving you easier access to the facts you need and a better user experience, no matter how you connect to the web. At a time when our industry is focusing on lean and efficient operations, we've tried to apply the same principles to our new website. We hope that you will find it simpler, fresher and more focused.

What have we focused on?

When reinventing Statoil.com, we went back to first principles: what do the users want? How can we make it as easy as possible to find the information people need?

We know that most people now use their phones as much as their PCs, so we designed the site from the ground up for a good mobile experience—with big buttons that are easy to touch on, clear fonts, plenty of space, and less text.  Pages that scroll instead of hierarchies you have to click through. Facts and figures highlighted in numbers and icons, to save you searching for them.

Rather than migrate pages from our existing website, we went back to the drawing board to make sure that all our new content is created from scratch to meet criteria of relevance, simplicity and usefulness. We redesigned the information architecture to help you access the site using everyday concepts such has how, why, what and where—even if you're not familiar with the oil and gas industry.

So what's new?
