Learn more about Equinor

We’re hoping the world’s largest wind farm won’t be largest for long.

We’re delighted to announce first power from Dogger Bank Wind Farm. When complete in 2026, these 277 turbines in the North Sea will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm, powering six million British homes

Offshore wind

We’re the company behind the wind farms at Sheringham Shoal and Dudgeon off the Norfolk coast — as well as Hywind Scotland. Now we’re developing the world’s largest offshore wind farm: Dogger Bank.

We’re a global leader in offshore wind drawing on our expertise in offshore energy to help the UK reach its net zero targets. By 2030, 7 million British homes will be powered by electricity from Equinor’s UK offshore wind farms — taking us from megawatts to gigawatts.

Low-carbon solutions

For over 20 years we have been storing carbon dioxide in reservoirs deep beneath the Norwegian North Sea, and producing hydrogen from natural gas.

Now we’re putting the two together in the UK, helping develop the East Coast Cluster into a global leader in low carbon technologies, with an ambition to link the Humber and Teesside to permanent storage under the North Sea.

Here’s why Rosebank is part of the broader energy picture for Britain

We believe there are rational reasons for developing the Rosebank field. Here, we explain the project.

Oil and gas

Today, were making a significant contribution to Britains energy security by supplying 27% of UK demand for natural gas and more than 15% of oil.

What’s more, these supplies are produced with some of the lowest carbon footprints in the industry, while our stable and reliable gas supplies have enabled the UK to phase out coal from the power mix, reducing emissions to levels not seen since the 19th century.

We’re working to develop domestic oil and gas, with three new projects coming onstream in recent years: Mariner, Utgard and Barnacle. We’re also progressing the Rosebank field which will contribute up to 8% of UK oil production and be one of the first oil and gas developments in the UK to be powered by electricity, drastically reducing emissions.

Powering the energy transition in the UK

The UK is on a path to reach net zero by 2050. In today’s world it is essential that we strike a balance, providing energy security while also enabling the energy transition.

As the country’s leading energy provider, Equinor is committed to playing a key role in delivering these needs and building a broad energy partnership with the UK.

We need more than one solution. We need power from offshore wind as well as oil and gas, with carbon capture and storage.
