Equinor awards Lufttransport RW AS a helicopter assignment on the Norwegian continental shelf
(UTC)Last modified
Equinor has awarded Lufttransport RW AS an assignment to operate two new search and rescue helicopters (SAR) for the Troll and Oseberg area. Lufttransport will be the third helicopter operator qualifying for assignments on the NCS.
Qualification for helicopter assignments on the NCS
- Companies must be approved for SAR and/or passenger flights on the NCS by the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority.
- To fly for Equinor, the company must be qualified through a thorough process that includes a review of the whole company focusing on operational, technical, organisational factors and resources.
- A qualification is performed in several stages and for an extensive period. Prior to the commencement of the contract, a final "start-up verification" is also carried out. For our new operator Lufttransport, this process will take place throughout 2025.
- Equinor qualifies new helicopter types for assignments on the NCS that are already being used in the offshore industry. Other factors, such as environmental considerations and experience from the specific area are also emphasised.
- Equinor has seven years of experience using AW139 machines for offshore traffic and SAR transportation from the company’s US and Brazilian operations.
- Around 1300 AW139 machines have been produced globally.
