In many ways, Johan Sverdrup represents the sum total of 40 years’ development and activities on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS). All the experience, technology and expertise gained during this period will benefit this project.
We are the operator for all phases of the Johan Sverdrup development, and safe and efficient operations are the most important prerequisite for our operations. We believe that our expertise, technology and innovation are our most significant competitive advantages.
Johan Sverdrup Phase 1 will be developed and installed between 2015 and 2019. It’s a tight plan, but feasible. Although Phase 1 is based on standard technology, development will be demanding due to the scale of the project. Planning commenced in March 2012 and the field is being built during a time of change with stringent focus on cost efficiency.
Covering 200 square kilometres the field is unique in size, but will follow a standardised development process. Our previous experience from large-scale complex projects and smaller field developments with stringent standardisation and industrialisation requirements will be invaluable.
Furthermore, we are not carrying out this task alone. We have the support of an entire industry, our partners’ experience, and the goals set by the authorities for the NCS. Together with our partners we have extensive experience of seabed development solutions in the area, and with ocean depths ranging from 110 to 120 metres and good reservoir characteristics, we will not have to resort to new, customised solutions in order to develop the field.
